The Marvel fandom went crazy with the release of the first trailer for Captain America: Civil War last week and yesterday it was confirmed that the viewing figures for the short clip smashed the previous record for number of first day views.
Having been premiered by Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel, the clip was then watched 61 million times worldwide in the first 24 hours, surpassing the previous record of 34 million views for Avengers: Age Of Ultron last year.
The trailer for the previous Captain America instalment, The Winter Soldier, was viewed 23 million times.
Captain America: Civil War sees the likes of Cap/Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) divided over whether or not superheroes require government control and restrictions.
The film also sees Paul Rudd’s Ant Man and Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther get in on the action.
Captain America: Civil War is released in the UK on April 29th and in the US on May 6th 2016.
