The revolving door over at EastEnders continues with the departure of Riley Carter Millington.
Riley made history last year when he first hit screens as Kyle Slater, becoming the first trans male actor to play a trans character in a UK soap.
However, his time on EastEnders is already coming to an end – with a spokesperson for the soap confirming that Riley is indeed leaving.
An EastEnders insider explained to us that ‘Kyle’s storylines on the show came to a natural end for now.’
While we can’t reveal the nature of his exit, the door is expected to be left open for a potential future return. Kyle currently is armed with the knowledge that Steven Beale was behind the recent robbery at the restaurant but whether or not that will link in to his departure remains to be seen.
Riley told us: ‘When I landed a 6 month contract at EastEnders it was a dream come true. For that to be extended to a year was something I never expected. However, as the time comes for Kyle to depart Walford I am looking forward to taking on new roles and who knows, Kyle may find his way back to Walford one day.’
An EastEnders spokesperson said: ‘We can confirm Riley is leaving EastEnders and wish him all the best for the future.’
Riley, a young actor of 22 whose first on screen role was Kyle, has won acclaim for his performances from fans since his debut, with viewers praising an episode which introduced his mum Alison played by Denise Welch in particular. He was recently nominated for the Inspirational Role Model Of The Year accolade at the European Diversity Awards and for the Newcomer Of The Year prize at the TV Choice Awards.
Other upcoming departures from Walford include Buster, the Mitchell sisters, Masood, Lee, Claudette and the Cokers.
