Nitin Ganatra is reprising his role of Masood Ahmed and will be returning to EastEnders later this year.
Masood was last seen heading off to Pakistan with his son Kamil in November 2016 in order to reunite with his ex-wife Zainab. However, he soon finds himself back in Walford as he tries his best to settle a couple of family members – who the audience have yet to meet – into Albert Square.
Ganatra joined EastEnders in 2007 as the head of the Masood family and became a big hit with soap fans. High-profile plotlines included his fiery relationship with wife Zainab, his support of son Syed’s relationship with Christian, as well as daughter Shabnam’s stillbirth.
Things were certainly never quiet for Masood, but will this time be any different? Bosses are promising that with his extended family joining him, Masood will once again be at the heart of the family as well as the drama.
Speaking of his return, Ganatra said “It was a lovely surprise to be asked back to EastEnders so soon after I left. In fact I was bowled over.
“When I was told Masood has still much to give to the show and is missed by the audience, it was hard to refuse. It is with great pride that I will grow my Masood goatie once again to help create and base an extended family around him. Exciting days to come Walford with Masood back on the Square.”
Casting is underway for Masood’s extended family and will be announced in due course.
