Ever since the Agent Carter one-shot attached to Marvel’s Iron Man 3, there has been a lot of talk within Marvel Studios about the possibility of developing a standalone TV series focusing on Agent Peggy Carter, played in the films by Hayley Atwell, she is better known to some as the love interest of Captain America (AKA Steve Rogers).
In September of 2013 it was announced that the studio had the series in the development stages under the supervision of showrunners Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas and now, along with their order for a second season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ABC have also announced that Atwell’s Peggy Carter will headline her own series, titled Marvel’s Agent Carter, a direct spin-off from Captain America: The First Avenger.
The official synopsis for the series reads:
“Marvel’s Agent Carter, starring Captain America’s Hayley Atwell, follows the story of Peggy Carter. It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalised when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life Steve Rogers.”
