Despite “save the cheerleader, save the world” being the mantra to Heroes, especially during season one, it has been announced that, when new show Heroes Reborn begins next month, Claire Bennet, played by Hayden Panettiere, won’t feature, and with good reason – she’s dead.
Creator of the show Tim Kring, speaking while on the 2015 Television Critics Association press tour, announced:
“She died a year prior to our story starting. That sort of gets into the mythology that’s attached to the original show.”
He also added that more of the old mythology of the character will be revealed through her father Noah Bennet, played by Jack Coleman, admitting that it is only his character from the original series who will appear in every episode of the new one.
There has been much speculation as to whether Heroes Reborn will work and win over audiences after Heroes struggled to maintain viewers beyond the huge success it found with season one.
Despite this, Masi Oka (Hiro Nakamura) and Greg Grunberg (Matt Parkman) are also returning while new cast members include Zachary Levi, best known for his role as the lead in Chuck, and Ryan Guzman from Pretty Little Liars.
Heroes Reborn launches with a two hour premiere on September 24 in the US while there has been no confirmation as yet about whether or not the show will be screened in the UK.
