The first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse was released yesterday, giving fans of the franchise a first look at what to expect when the film opens next May.
The clip introduces the titular villain, played by Oscar Issac and welcomes back Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Evan Peters (Quicksilver) and of course, James McAvoy as Charles Xavier/Professor X who, at the end of the clip, is shown for the first time as being bald.
New to the cast are Olivia Munn (Psylocke) and Lana Condor (Jubilee) while other much loved characters make a return to the franchise under the guise of new actors. Game Of Thrones‘ Sophie Turner takes on the part of Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan is Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp takes over as Storm, Ben Hardy plays Angel and Kodi-Smit-McPhee, perhaps best known for his role in The Road, is Nightcrawler.
The film is set in 1983, a decade after the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past.
The synopsis for the movie reads:
“Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.”
X:Men Apocalypse will be released May 19th 2016 in the UK and a week later in the US.
