While fans eagerly await the next series of Game Of Thrones, the writer of the books on which the show is based, George R.R. Martin, has caused some to be hugely disappointed by the news that he has not yet finished the next novel, and has missed not one, but TWO deadlines.
Writing in a blog post over the weekend, he said:
“I am months away still … and that’s if the writing goes well. Sometimes it does. Sometimes it doesn’t. Writing on “The Winds of Winter” has not been going well. I tried, I promise you. I failed. I blew the Halloween deadline, and I’ve now blown the end of the year deadline. And that almost certainly means that no, THE WINDS OF WINTER will not be published before the sixth season of GAME OF THRONES premieres in April.”
Taking into account the fact that the show has caught up to where his last book ended, he added:
“Given where we are, inevitably, there will be certain plot twists and reveals in season six of GAME OF THRONES that have not yet happened in the books.”
As for his reasons for missing his deadlines, he simply put:
“The fewer the days, the greater the stress, and the slower the pace of my writing became.”
Despite the delays, fans quickly inundated Martin with messages of support.
