STRICTLY 2019: CHRISTMAS STARS REVEALED 0 16

Six of the most-loved Strictly contestants from previous series are returning to the dance floor for an all-star Christmas extravaganza special, coming to BBC One on Christmas Day.

This year the ladies set to sprinkle some Christmas magic on the dancefloor are Chizzy Akudolu, Debbie McGee and Gemma Atkinson.

Chizzy says: “I am so excited to be coming back to Strictly this year, and being able to get back on the dancefloor once again! I’m still the biggest fan of Strictly so it’s wonderful to be back with old friends, in front of and behind the camera, and hopefully some new ones for Christmas. Bring on the sparkle, and maybe an odd 10 – it is Christmas after all…!”

Debbie says: “I thought all my dreams came true two years ago when I was asked to do the series, but to be one of the rare people to be invited back to do the Christmas Special is the icing on the cake. I can’t wait to be back dancing with my Strictly family”.

Gemma says: “I had the absolute best time on Strictly and it completely changed my life so I am absolutely overjoyed to be returning to the dancefloor this Christmas with a new challenge, and of course to be back with the gang!”

The gentlemen set to rock the dancefloor are Joe Sugg, Mark Wright, and Richard Arnold.

Joe says: “I’m really excited to have a go on the strictly ballroom floor again this Christmas. Strictly feels like a home away from home for me so I will be giving it my best shot and ending the year on a high.”

Mark says: “It’s been a while since I was on the dancefloor but I’m very much looking to forward to dusting off the dance shoes for Christmas! I can’t wait to be back – let’s get going!”

Richard says: “I can’t wait to get back out on the dance floor and throw shapes beneath the glitter ball once again. I just can’t promise you’ll recognise them or that they’ll be in any particular order. What I can promise is that one of us will be a professional.”

Each of the six couples will perform a Christmas inspired routine in a bid to be crowned Christmas champions 2019.

Hosted by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, the show wouldn’t be complete without the festive foursome on the judging panel: Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Bruno Tonioli and Head Judge Shirley Ballas.

The judges will be on hand to score each couple and spread some cheerful joy, yet it will be down to the studio audience to vote for which dancing duo will win the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special 2019 and lift the famous Silver Star trophy.

The professional dancers and pairings will be revealed in due course.

BRIT AWARDS 2020: HUGE CHANGES REVEALED 0 18

The 2020 BRITs will be the landmark 40th show in the ceremony’s history, promising more music than ever before. The artists will be in control next year too – the BRIT Awards organisers are handing creative control over to the performers, “without imposing any creative limitations on their performances”.

Hailing from London’s O2 Arena on February 18, 2020 broadcast live on ITV, the 2020 BRITs will see a “streamlined” nine trophies given out. Viewer vote category British Artist Video of the Year has been scrapped, British Breakthrough Act is now known as Best New Artist, and British Single has been renamed Song of the Year and will now be chosen by the 2020 Official Voting Academy instead of the public.

The BRITs Critics’ Choice has been re-branded as the Rising Star Award with the winner taking to the stage on the night, while International Group has been removed entirely.

The classic Lady Britannia BRIT statuette will also return after nearly a decade away, with famous designers re-imagining the trophy in recent years.

Since 2008 the Critics’ Choice Award has helped launch some of our fave British artists of the last decade including Sam Fender, Adele, Florence + The Machine, Sam Smith and Rag ‘N’ Bone Man. This year, we’re evolving the award and renaming it the Rising Star Award. We’re also expanding the panel to include those that work with new rising talent on a regular basis in order to make sure we’re leaving no stone unturned in finding the best British talent out there. Also, in a BRITs first and providing a major platform to new British talent, our 2020 Rising Star Award winner will perform at the main show on the 18th February!

Speaking about the 2020 changes Chairman of The BRITs Committee for 2020 and Chairman and CEO of Universal Music UK David Joseph said: “We have had a fresh look at the BRIT Awards this year. Most importantly we will be putting creativity, British culture and exceptional performances at the heart of the show to make BRITs night a world class celebration. The awards should be a global platform for the artists of the year to create moments that live beyond the night itself. We are looking at everything to put on the best possible show.”

Chief Executive, BPI and BRIT Awards Ltd Geoff Taylor said: “It’s always exciting to launch the next BRITs campaign, but it’s extra special to be announcing the 40th edition of the awards show. The BRITs Committee will endeavour to make the 2020 BRITs a truly landmark event, highlighting not only another remarkable 12 months in the British music year to a growing global audience, but also paying tribute to many unforgettable BRITs moments that are now part of a rich and much loved heritage.”

That’s it for now, we’ll be announcing more exciting news in the run-up to The BRIT Awards 2020 with Mastercard, which will, as always, be a fantastic celebration of the very best of British music of the last twelve months!
