This episode focused on fewer plot arcs and instead stayed on the ever-ticking time bomb that was VP Sally Langston, which has led to new revelations for some.
Jake puts Quinn in a new job at ‘Acme Limited’ where she just works as a simple receptionist, which makes Quinn angry about this demotion. They talk about how Olivia can emotionally get to him, which are proven correct. Jake promotes her again, but we don’t know what her new assignment is until the near end of the episode.
David Rosen shows the tape to Olivia, Abby and Huck proving Sally’s guilt. Olivia visits Cyrus and tells him she knows everything, the goes into a laughing fit because “They’re all murderers,” referring to the Presidential candidates – Fitz, Reston and Langston – “No one’s perfect,” Cyrus says. Olivia refuses to help him ‘keep a lid on this’.
Even though OPA gathers information on the Daniel Douglas case, Olivia insists there is no help for either Daniel or Cyrus, she doesn’t want any involvement and heads home to spend time with her fake boyfriend, Jake Ballard.
Rowan Pope yells at Leo Bergen for letting Sally slip in the polls. Later, Sally tells Leo that the Lord has stopped speaking to her, and to come clean will fix everything. Leo tells Cyrus he needs to delay the Presidential debate which he refuses to do until Leo says that the debate will send Cyrus to prison is it goes forward, so Cyrus calls Charlie asking if he could kill Sally but Charlie doesn’t do any freelance jobs anymore due to Jake’s orders. So, Cyrus meets Jake and asks him the same thing, sharing endless reasons why this needs to be done. Getting no results, Cyrus goes to Olivia to figure out how to cancel the debate, where he admits he has made major mistakes, so Olivia goes to Sally, who tells her what she did to Daniel and says that without God’s love that she is worse that dead.
Sally doesn’t budge, Olivia calls Fitz and tells him that Sally had killed Daniel Douglas and asks him to throw the debate.
The debate arrives pitting Reston, Fitz and Langston against each other. While this takes place, Quinn infiltrates OPA HQ and takes the data they found on the Daniel Douglas murder and brings it to Jake. Convinced of the crime, he orders Secret Service agent and B613 employee Tom to assassinate Sally if she comes clean during the debate.
Sally tries to confess but falters. Fitz steps in and asks her if she’s trying to come up with a biblical line. The conversation turns and Sally has her sign from God. She snaps into action and starts to win the debate thanks to Fitz who is acting on Olivia’s orders.
After this Cyrus and Leo are talking in Cyrus’ office where Leo hears a buzzing sound which leads Cyrus to figure out what it is, he discovers the microphone placed there by James Novak, Cyrus’ husband, he confronts him about it. “I did this, I used you,” Cyrus tells James followed by a very touching heart to heart moment.
At the end of the episode, we see James and David Rosen meet up with two other woman, one being the woman that James was feeding information to about Daniel Douglas’ autopsy when Jake makes a surprise appearance and shoots the two women and then turns the gun on James and David. The episode ends just as the gun goes off once more, resulting in a devastating cliff hanger so far: Who got shot? James or David?
